What You Need To Know

Earlier Versions of Microsoft Access – Important

If you are using any Microsoft Access databases on your computer that were created with versions of Microsoft Access prior to Access 2007, e.g. Access 2003, Access 2000 you need to know some ‘work arounds’ to make your existing databases open in the right version of Access. This is achieved by editing your desktop shortcuts to force the right version of Access to open – see this page about editing your desktop shortcuts before proceeding.

You may also want to consider whether it will cause you any grief or conflicts running two different versions of Access on your computer.  If you are not sure, research this issue first, before downloading and installing the Microsoft 2007 Access Runtime Program.  We are unable to predict every possible conflict that might occur where people are using databases created in earlier Access versions, or what other software you’ve installed on your computer that uses Microsoft Access as a platform.

(If you are not sure which version of Access you have installed open your Access Program, go to Help, then About, and it will tell you which version it is).

Users Who Do Not Have Microsoft Access Installed

Dream Sight Diary Database Version 3 will only work with Microsoft Access 2007.  If you don’t have Access 2007 you will also need to download and install the Microsoft Access 2007 Runtime program – it’s also free. See this tutorial for instructions on how to download and install it.

Users Who Do Have The Full Version Of Microsoft Access 2007 Installed

If you have Microsoft Access 2007 installed, you only need to download Dream Sight Diary Database Version 3, as it is compatible with the full version of Access 2007.

One thing you might like to know is that we’ve set the file extension on Dream Sight Diary Database Version 3 to open in Runtime mode.  This makes the Access 2007 Ribbon and design features unavailable.  We did this so that users who are not familiar with Microsoft Access won’t be confused by all the Access design features or accidentally modify the program.

Trial Versions of Microsoft Office Professional 2007

Many new computers are sold with trial versions of Microsoft Office.  If your trial version includes Microsoft Access 2007 and you are not planning on buying or activating the trial version of this product, you should remove it before installing the Microsoft Access 2007 Runtime program.  To remove it go to your computer’s Control Panel and look for Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP) and Programs in Vista.

Please read the Frequently Asked Questions before downloading and installing Version 3.

Operating Systems

We have only tested Dream Sight Diary Database Version 3 on Microsoft Windows XP and Vista operating systems.

If your computer’s operating system is an earlier system such as Windows ME, 2000, or 98 – we don’t know if it will work properly.  You might like to consider waiting until you are using a Microsoft Windows XP or Vista Operating system before downloading and installing these programs.

We also have not tested it on the Windows 7 operating system, although we expect it to work if you remove any unused trial versions of Microsoft Access first.  (Note, whilst Microsoft Access is sold by itself, it most often is packaged with the Professional (and above) editions of Microsoft Office).
