Important Information for Mac Users

Dream Sight Diary Database is designed to be installed on a Windows operating system.  In English this means a computer running Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.

That said, there are ways to make Dream Sight Diary database work on a Mac.

1.  Option 1 – set up your Mac with a dual booting system.

According to the Apple website, all new Apple PCs and Laptops come with software where it’s possible to choose which operating system you boot into.  You should check with your Mac dealer what you need to do to get this setup if you want to run Windows on a Mac.

2.  Option 2 – Parallels

There is a program called Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac which is produced and sold from www.parallels.com

You can download a 30 day trial of this program to test if it will work for you.  Basically it allows you to run Windows programs on a Mac computer.

What you need to do is:

  • download and install Parallels on your Mac
  • Install a Windows Operating System, e.g. Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7
  • Follow the rest of the instructions on our website for downloading and installing Dream Sight Diary on the Windows side of your Mac.

This program comes highly recommended from a Dream Sight Diary user who bought Parallels so she could run an Astrology program that only works on Windows.  She has confirmed to me that she now has Dream Sight Diary Database installed and working properly on her Mac, using Parallels.

Parallels is meant to work so that you can flick between the Mac side and the Windows side – that is both are running together.  Her only comment to me is that on her Mac the system slows down if she is running both so she closes out all her Mac work while she’s working with Windows.  This slowness would be because the Mac is using too many resources.  Her Mac is approximately 3 years old.

If your Mac is relatively new and powerful, you may find it can handle both systems running at the same time.  Adding more RAM can also help PC’s and MAC’s speed up because RAM helps your processor do more things.

I (Belinda) cannot support Macs because I don’t own one and I’ve never used one, but plenty of people out there own them and run Windows programs on them, so the point of this page is to demonstrate it is possible to run Dream Sight Diary on a Mac.  I hope this helps.
